The Somme Historical Centre
The Somme Historical Centre was established in response to the ever-growing interest shown by the public in the subject of the weapons and equipment of the Great War. Lecture topics are wide-ranging and include among others: Tank Warfare; The Maxim Machine Gun; Infantry Small Arms, Trench Armour and The Sniping War. All lectures are illustrated and perhaps uniquely the weapons and equipment referred to are usually available for visitors to examine first hand.
Pre-booking is necessary and coach parties are welcome.
“Told you we would be back!”
Having abandoned our plans to set up our own on-site lecture facility, lectures can still be delivered using alternative local venues, subject to availability and as booked by ourselves. Lectures to groups are given by prior booking and are charged on a per head basis. Guests staying at the farm are welcome to attend any lectures that we may be running at the time of their stay, subject to the agreement of the booker.
“Marks out of 10? At least 12+!”
Tours of the battlefields can be organised upon request. For those of an adventurous mind, Martin runs short duration motorcycle tours of Great War battlefields, which includes tours of the Somme, Flanders (Ypres) and Verdun. Please note that tours to Verdun would involve the cost of overnight accommodation.

“Interesting and informative tour – very friendly welcome – it was nice to be looked after for a change!”
“A first-timer! Thanks Martin and Kate for a great stay and super trip. I’ll certainly be back again soon! Do you need a butler?”
