The Somme Historical Centre

The newly opened Somme Historical Centre was founded in response to the ever-growing interest shown by the public in the subject of the weapons and equipment of the Great War. Lecture topics are wide-ranging and include among others: Tank Warfare; The Maxim Machine Gun; Infantry Small Arms, Trench Armour and The  Sniping War. All lectures are illustrated and uniquely, the weapons and equipment referred to are usually available for visitors to examine first hand.

Pre-booking is necessary and coach parties are welcome.

“Told you we would be back!”

We plan to have an on-site lecture room, capable of seating 50+ people. Until our own on-site lecture facility is available, lectures can be delivered at alternative local venues, subject to availability and booked by ourselves. Lectures to groups are given by prior arrangement and are charged on a per head basis. Guests staying at the farm are welcome to attend any lectures free of charge that are running.

“Marks out of 10? At least 12+!”

Small tours of the battlefields can be organised upon request. For those of an adventurous mind, Martin runs short duration motorcycle tours of 1 to 3 days of the region, taking in the most important areas of the Somme battlefields.
