About Us

Martin and Kate Pegler have been visiting the battlefields of the Great War for over 25 years and their love of the region has led them to live there permanently. For the last 17 years, Martin has been Senior Curator of Firearms at the Royal Armouries Museum, specialising in the history and development of military firearms. Kate has spent her working life in business management as a Personal Assistant. Their experience enables him to remember hundreds of useless facts and her to organise things!

As well as being the author of numerous books on military subjects and with a new title in preparation more often than not, Martin has appeared as resident 'expert' on numerous television programmes (and not to be outdone, Kate appeared on 'Pebble Mill at One' about 25 years ago with her collection of WW1 sweetheart brooches!). Martin has also acted as technical adviser to numerous film and television companies and has appeared in such television programmes as “Two Men in a Trench” and “Battlefield Detectives”, and is occasionally spotted on Discovery's History channel.

Another shared passion is motorcycle touring and Martin and Kate have toured a large part of Europe, including visiting the Arctic Circle through Norway. Motorcycling combines well with another passion, which is landscape photography.

They are pleased to be able to offer short duration tailored motorcycle tours of this region, with or without accommodation, using the quiet twisty local roads that all bikers love! See our Motorcycle Tours page for more information.

Martin and Kate also offer the results of their photography in Picardy via postcards or prints – see our FotoMartin Pages for more details.

Finally, no website about the Pegler’s would be complete without mentioning that our lives are dominated by two cats, Willow (18) and Hooley (8), both of whom now speak French fluently.
